Evidence-Based Professional Learning/Development (Membership-Based PL/PD and/or Customized Support):

  • Enhance your skills with our math professional learning sessions for TK-12 teachers, coaches, and administrators.
  • Learn cutting-edge instructional routines.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding  with our online and in-person math workshops.

Instructional and Formative Assessment Resources (MAC/MARS) (Membership-Based):

  • Implement math formative assessments to track and improve student performance.
  • Explore our database of over 1,300  tasks with strategically scaffolded items that build on one another, with multiple opportunities to show work, justify, and reason.
  • Utilize our assessment tools for a deeper evaluation of student thinking to inform instruction for Kindergarten to Pre-Calculus & Data Science

Problem of the Month (POM) (Membership-Based):

  • Promote highly engaging non-routine problem solving with a set of five progressive non-scaffolded, high cognitive demand tasks that span primary to high school.
  • Celebrate mathematics with grade-level or school-wide problem solving.

The Annual Mathematics Assessment Collaborative (MAC) Summative Assessment Program (Membership-Based):

  • Provides valuable insights into student learning and curriculum effectiveness for Grades 2 to Pre-Calculus & Data Science, annually in the spring, and can be used to modify instruction before the state assessment. 
  • Predicts performance on CAASPP. 

Lesson Study (Membership-Based):

  • Receive support for collaborative learning and implementation of co-designed lessons, enhancing your teaching and questioning strategies.

Re-engagement Tools (Membership-Based):

  • Provides innovative strategies and tools to re-engage students in math learning, reinforcing lessons from developing number sense to calculus.
  • Supports teachers to use student work to guide instruction.

Mission Statement

The Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative (SVMI) is a comprehensive effort to improve mathematics instruction and student learning. The Initiative is based on high performance expectations of all students, ongoing professional learning, and the examination of student work to inform and improve instruction.

Our goal is to support rigorous, engaging, and equitable mathematics learning spaces that are highly interactive, robust, and focused on instruction that centers student agency and identity.
