Virtual Book Study Zoom Session

SVMI Math Leader Meetups

SVMI Math Leader Meetups are designed for grade-level leads, math department chairs, coaches/TOSAs, site administrators, and district administrators. The purpose of the meetups is to improve and refine our practice and strengthen our understanding around current research- and evidenced-based practices about math content, teaching strategies, and learning theory. These opportunities are designed to include new learnings coupled with collaborative networking opportunities with other member districts to hear about our collective mathematical journey.

This year's focus will be a book study on Elena Aguilar’s latest publication, Arise. Registration is required. Please consider obtaining access to the book ahead of the first Meetup.

Meetups are offered virtually five times a year from 9 to 11 AM Pacific Time with optional office hours from 11 AM to 12 PM. Meetups are included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership and open to non-members for a nominal fee.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect at a Meetup?

Each Meetup will center on a handful of chapters on the book. Agenda coming soon.

How do I know if this type of learning is right for me?

If you are looking for a safe and inclusive space to grow your professional learning in the area of transformative coaching, this absolutely is the place to be! Beyond just a typical book study, our meetups will combine the principles and learnings from the book but also integrate key learnings and findings specific to mathematics and math education research to highlight the nuances that take place in a math classroom and community.

My district/organization is not a SVMI member. Can I still attend?

Yes! SVMI is excited to bring this opportunity to both SVMI members and non-members. Non-members pay $125 for the 5-part series. Upon completion of the Zoom registration, a member of our team will connect with you regarding next steps.

Do I need to attend all 5 sessions?  We believe learning is best supported with consistency. If you plan on missing a session or need to leave early or show up later, please consider sending a colleague in your absence to be a "meeting buddy" and collaborate on your sharing learnings together. That being said, we also understand that life happens - we'll miss you and hope to see you at the next one!
What is the cost of the PL series? If your district/organization is a current SVMI member for SY 2026-2027, this 5-part series is included in your SVMI membership
