Teaching Inclusive Mathematics: What Leaders Need to Know

Come and learn about recent scholarship on teaching knowledge for inclusive mathematics. Dr. Rachel Lambert (UCSB, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education) will describe political knowledge for teaching inclusive mathematics, developed by herself, Alexis Padilla and Paulo Tan, and its connection to political conocimiento, a concept developed by Rochelle Gutierrez. The keynote will also explore how empathy can create conditions for shifting away from deficit mindsets. Rachel will also share activities she uses when working with teachers and give participants space to design and discuss their own professional learning designs.

What is a Math Leadership Summit?

SVMI's Math Leadership Summits are designed for learning and collaboration for grade-level leads, math department chairs, coaches/TOSAs, site administrators, and district administrators. The biannual summit aims to build awareness and deepen understanding at the intersection of instructional leadership, mathematics, equity, and engagement. Nationally recognized speakers feature relevant and meaningful topics. Since 1996, SVMI has been honored to learn from some of the most brilliant minds in mathematics and mathematics education: Ruth Parker, Jo Boaler, Cathy Humphreys, Akihiko Takahashi, Megan Franke, Steve Leinwand, Eduardo Briceño, Constance Kamii, Deborah Ball, Catherine Lewis, Kathy Richardson, and many, many more.
