Multilingual learners bring immense value, cultural richness, and diverse linguistic assets to California classrooms, enhancing the learning experience for all students when their contributions are centered and celebrated. Creating an environment that honors these assets is essential to fostering inclusive and dynamic spaces for learning math. As district leaders, how can you leverage your adoption process and selected instructional materials to put multilingual learners at the center and support rich math language development, knowing that this will benefit all students?
In alignment with the CA Math Framework's call to leverage multilingual students’ assets and address their unique learning needs, this session explores how to maximize curriculum embedded features like language objectives, "juicy" tasks, and Math Language Routines. Learn actionable strategies to help teachers effectively implement these tools, proactively bridge systemic curriculum gaps, and ensure that integrating language development elevates mathematical understanding so every student thrives. Join ELSF to transform district adoption and implementation processes into powerful levers for joyful, high-impact math learning across all classrooms.
The Summit is Thursday, March 4, 2027 from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Sobrato Center for Nonprofits in Redwood City, CA. Doors open at 8:30 AM with morning refreshments. Lunch is 12 to 1 PM.

What is a Math Leadership Summit?
SVMI's Math Leadership Summits are designed for learning and collaboration for grade-level leads, math department chairs, coaches/TOSAs, site administrators, and district administrators. The biannual summit aims to build awareness and deepen understanding at the intersection of instructional leadership, mathematics, equity, and engagement. Nationally recognized speakers feature relevant and meaningful topics. Since 1996, SVMI has been honored to learn from some of the most brilliant minds in mathematics and mathematics education: Ruth Parker, Jo Boaler, Cathy Humphreys, Akihiko Takahashi, Megan Franke, Steve Leinwand, Eduardo Briceño, Constance Kamii, Deborah Ball, Catherine Lewis, Kathy Richardson, and many, many more. Keynotes are generally from 9 to 12 PM, followed by lunch from 12 to 1 PM. The event is offered in-person in the Bay Area. Event registration for the Summit is included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership and open to non-members for a nominal fee.
