Summer Institute Event

SVMI‘s 25th Annual Summer Institute is a highly anticipated event that invites educators to explore new and innovative approaches to teaching mathematics. With a focus on transformation and evolution within math pedagogy, this institute will provide valuable insights and resources for educators.

This year’s event is particularly significant as it aligns with the release of the 2023 CA Mathematics Framework, which sets the standards for math education in California. This framework serves as a guide for educators to create a more equitable and engaging learning environment, and the Summer Institute aims to be a catalyst for this change. By attending, educators can expect to gain valuable knowledge and tools to enhance their teaching practices and connect with students on a deeper level. Teachers can also earn 1 CEU for every 10 hours of professional learning. This event promises to be an enriching and profound experience for all attendees.

Amplifying Student Learning Through Math Language Routines

Amplifying Student Learning Through Math Language Routines

The Summer Institute (virtual: July 16-18 from 9 am to 12:30 PM Pacific Time) (in person: July 23-25 from 8:30 am to 3:00 PM in Livermore, CA ) is a program designed to propel educators into the realm of Math Language Routines anchored in performance tasks or Problems of the Month. These routines are powerful tools that can greatly enhance student collaborative learning experiences in mathematics. By immersing students in these routines, educators are able to better understand their students’ comprehension levels and address any gaps in understanding.

Additionally, these routines help fortify students’ mathematical language skills, allowing them to effectively communicate and articulate their understanding of mathematical concepts. This improves their ability to solve complex problems and communicate their mathematical reasoning. The Summer Institute provides educators with the necessary training and resources to effectively implement Math Language Routines in their classrooms, ultimately leading to improved student learning outcomes in mathematics.

Embracing Equitable Instructional Practices with the TRU Math Framework

Embracing Equitable Instructional Practices with the TRU Math Framework

At the heart of the Summer Institute lies the TRU Math Framework, a powerful tool that provides guidance and direction towards creating equitable instructional practices. By embracing this framework, educators are able to incorporate the 5 dimensions of a mathematical powerful classroom (Content, Cognitive Demand, Equitable Access, Agency, Authority & Identity, and Use of Formative Assessment) into their everyday teaching repertoire,  ultimately ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity to thrive in their math education.

Designing Comprehensive Lessons with the Launch, Explore, Summarize Concept

Educators participating in the Summer Institute will uncover the art of crafting comprehensive lessons through the Launch, Explore, Summarize Concept Lesson structure. This methodology nurtures a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to actively engage with mathematical concepts, leading to a profound understanding and appreciation of the subject matter.

Maximizing SVMI Tools and Resources for Curriculum Planning

Maximizing SVMI Tools and Resources for Curriculum Planning

SVMI’s 25th Annual Summer Institute serves as a gateway for educators to harness the full potential of  tools and resources in their curriculum planning endeavors. By integrating these resources seamlessly with existing curricular materials, combined with the  implementation of  powerful pedagogical strategies, teachers can  orchestrate a  sophisticated learning experience tailored to the unique needs of their students. Through a steadfast commitment to math education and teaching practices that prioritize student voice & engagement, educators have the power to revolutionize the way students interact with mathematical concepts, paving the way for a future where every student can thrive mathematically.
