Our Fall Professional Learning Series has options for every type of learner, from the classroom to the board room. We believe participating in highly engaging and interactive professional learning that is centered on enhancing one’s pedagogical mathematics content knowledge, coupled with best instructional practices, is the key to transforming math classrooms!
Our PL sessions are offered Virtually (over Zoom) and around the Bay Area for our In Person sessions. Most learning opportunities are included as perks to being a SVMI member, with some that are offered with a nominal fee for non-members.

Something For Everyone
The SVMI Lab School: Member PL Series for in person learning is an innovative cohort learning model that brings adult learning directly into the classroom. This 3-part series features LIVE classroom demonstrations and observations that highlight a seamless integration of SVMI tools and resources, mathematics content knowledge, Math Language Routines, TRU Math, and much more! PLs are facilitated by classroom educators who lead grade band cohorts: Grades TK-2, Grades 3-5, Middle School and High School. Applications are required and priority is given to teams of 3 and teams who include an administrator or support specialist (i.e. coach/TOSA, coordinator, etc.) The 3-part series is offered in the following two Bay Area regions: Silicon Valley and East Bay/Tri-Valley and takes place from 8:30 AM to 3 PM. Event registration for the SVMI Lab School: Member PL Series for in person learning is included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership.

The Fall Professional Learning for virtual learning is designed for classroom teachers and coaches/TOSAs to learn how to skillfully utilize and incorporate our suite of SVMI tools and resources with curricular materials. The 3-part series is intentionally designed to successfully level up one’s use of MAC/MARs Performance Assessment, Formative Assessment/Re-engaging Lesson, Problems of the Month, math talk routines, TRU Math Framework, Mathematical Language Routines, and so much more. This highly interactive professional learning also incorporates solid pedagogical and mathematical content knowledge, as well as intentional and impactful lesson and unit design. PLs are facilitated by classroom educators and designed by grade bands: Grades TK-2, Grades 3-5, and Middle School & High School.

Math Leader Meetups are designed for grade-level leads, math department chairs, coaches/TOSAs, site administrators, and district administrators. The purpose of the Meetups is to improve and refine their practice and strengthen their understanding around current research- and evidenced-based practices about math content, teaching strategies, and learning theory. These opportunities are designed to include new learnings coupled with collaborative networking opportunities with other member districts to hear about their mathematical journey. The Meet Ups are offered virtually five times a year. Event registration for the Meetups are included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership and open to non-members for a nominal fee. For SY 2026-2027, the focus of our Meetups will be a book study on Elena Aguilar’s latest publication, Arise.
The New to SVMI Video Series are designed for classroom teachers, teacher leaders, coaches/TOSAs, and site and district administrators who are new to the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative. New administrators and leaders of existing member districts are also encouraged to attend to learn about our updates. The meetings have been redesigned as a video series and self-paced. Topics include: SVMI’s pedagogy around equitable and engaging mathematics learning, our vast database of tools and resources, our wealth of professional learning and networking opportunities. The videos are available year round on demand and are found on www.svmimac.org. The Video Series is included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership.

The Math Leadership Summit is designed for learning and collaboration for grade-level leads, math department chairs, coaches/TOSAs, site administrators, and district administrators. The biannual summit aims to build awareness and deepen understanding at the intersection of instructional leadership, mathematics, equity, and engagement. Nationally recognized speakers feature relevant and meaningful topics during the Summit from 9 to 11 AM, followed by lunch from 12 to 1 PM. The event is offered in-person in the Bay Area. Event registration for the Summit is included as one of the many perks of SVMI membership and open to non-members for a nominal fee.
